There appears to be general support across the Isle of Skye and Raasay for looking at a more effective model of delivering clean energy to Skye which does genuinely deliver local benefit.
We have two excellent local examples in terms of the micro-hydro projects on Raasay and Sleat where these community owned projects are wholly owned by their own communities with profits generated being invested back into their own local areas to support further investment and community projects.
An extension of this concept has been proposed in the form of Skye Energy is a proposal for a mutual electricity supplier owned by the communities and customers on the islands of Skye and Raasay.
The landscape and environment as we currently know it on Skye looks set to change forever with the advent of industrial scale windfarms in the next 5-7 years. To date, there have been consultation events held on the island by the commercial wind development companies to provide some information on these developments, but it is difficult for islanders to find information to help them understand the bigger picture and the implications for the future of the Isle of Skye.
This website has been designed to act as a centralised information point for islanders to obtain information on the bigger picture containing some background information and also links to other sources of data.
