LANDOWNERS

One of Skye’s landowners who is not in principle in favour of the scale of wind development is Charles Macdonald who has voiced his concerns publicly both at a meeting held in Portree in February, and also in his article published in the West Highland Free Press earlier this year and which can be read via the link below.

Charles’ has asked Skye’s residents to think carefully about the upcoming planning applications, as it is clear that: WIND FARMS WILL CHANGE SKYE FOREVER and consider the following points:

SKYE WIND INFORMATION GROUP

This is a group for those who think any further Wind Farm development on Skye should be small scale and community owned so all profits stay on Skye. This is a useful source of information for those who wish to access useful and well informed information, particularly in terms of raising concerns regarding planning applications.

A paper published recently in the Scottish Wind Land Group’s ‘Wild Land News’ is available here as a PDF. This was written by Norman McNab BSc(Eng) CEng MIET FIES. Norman has also directed us towards the very useful information published by the Institution of Engineers in Scotland.  The Institution of Engineers in Scotland (IES) has published a Paper by Charles Scott, under the title: ‘Electricity Supply in Great Britain: 1919 to 2023’. As well as a Bulletin which gives a summary of the main points. To view the documents, please click the buttons below.

The landscape and environment as we currently know it on Skye looks set to change forever with the advent of industrial scale windfarms in the next 5-7 years. To date, there have been consultation events held on the island by the commercial wind development companies to provide some information on these developments, but it is difficult for islanders to find information to help them understand the bigger picture and the implications for the future of the Isle of Skye.

This website has been designed to act as a centralised information point for islanders to obtain information on the bigger picture containing some background information and also links to other sources of data. If you wish to submit feedback, please use the online form on this site or contact us through our social media pages.
